Course Description: This course covers the major concepts of Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD and how it has been adapted to meet the needs of diverse populations. This training covers the states of the literature on how to delivery flexible CPT for people who may be facing ongoing instability and violence, low levels of literacy, logistical barriers, stigma and mistrust of the medical system.

Course Objectives:

1. To know the historical development of CPT

2. To understand PTSD symptoms, cognitive theory and the basics of Socratic questioning

3. To become informed on the state of cultural adaptation and modification for diverse populations.

About Your Instructor:

Dr. Regina Musicaro is the Director of the Trauma, Healing and Resilience in Vulnerable Environments (THRIVE) program at Montefiore Medical Center and an assistant professor in the Psychiatric Research Institute for Montefiore Einstein (PRIME) at the Albert Einstein School of Medicine. Her research and practice focus on people's reactions to stressful events such a victimization, war, racial trauma, discrimination, bullying, mental illness and natural disasters. She also studies post-traumatic healing methods for individuals, organizations, and governments. She is the recipient of 15 awards for career excellence in research and practice, including SUNY New Paltz' 40 Under 40 recognition for career excellence.
