An exceptional piece of writing by John Mc Dwyer, founder and director of BEEZNEEZ theatre company, the play has entertained and emotionally touched audiences over almost two decades. Theatres all over Ireland have rocked with laughter to its humours and nostalgic content. But equally audiences have appreciated its poignant and sad moments as the ups and downs of life are recalled. It continues to appeal to theatre goers, some coming back again and again. The play follows the life of an ordinary man who experiences great joy and huge heart break in his life. Appealing to all generations it captures the human condition in all its glory and tragedy and resonates with everyone. Performed by Gerry Farrell, it has proven to be a very successful and universally admired piece of work. Although steeped in Ireland of the late fifties and early sixties as the central character recalls school and home life, it has an appeal well beyond Ireland and Irish culture. With over 140 performances completed people from the Caribbean, Africa, Syria and East European countries express their astonishment with how much they can identify with the social mores of an Ireland yet untouched by materialism and secularisation.
