About this Event
Amateur actors in Cork City, Ireland, convene at their local pub-theater for the first read-through of a new “Irish play.” What no one knows yet is that the play has been written by an American. Over the course of the evening the newly assembled cast debates (in typically Irish fashion) the play’s deficiencies and merits, who will play which part, and whether or not to do the play at all. Irish and American cultures come into conflict, old rivalries reignite, and secrets are revealed as the group struggles toward an understanding of this enigmatic Irish play. What begins as a comedic examination of Irish theatre and identity becomes by evening’s end a character drama of strong emotional force.
O’Brien keenly captures the dysfunctional relationships found in our theater world. From the insecurities, imposter syndrome to showmances and needing a dram or two after a rehearsal or show, An Irish Play has it all. If you are or have been involved in a theater as a producer, director, stage manager or actor, this is a must see piece.
Join ART/WNY for the regional premiere of Dan O’Brien’s pointy stick comedy “An Irish Play” March 12th to March 28th. Featuring a wicked pissah ensemble of Artie nominated actors Trevor Dugan, Brooke Goergen, Rick Lattimer, Michael Starzynski, alongside theater veteran Catherine Burkhart, up-and-coming actors John DellaContrada and Robert Humphrey, this dark-comedy will take out the green in your beer then replace it with cream & whiskey. Boom! Carbomb, lads & lasses. Buckle up.
