About this Event
An introduction to some of the newer methods of CBT which broaden the approach and address some of the criticisms of CBT being too solution-focused and lacking in compassion.
Participants will gain a basic understanding of each as well as some helpful tools and techniques they can integrate into their current practice. Experiential exercises will be included.
• Introduction to Compassion Focused Therapy – origins, uses and practical tools and techniques, experiential exercises.
• Introduction to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy – main principles, dispelling myths, experiential exercises and practical tools
• Introduction to DBT – history, emotional regulation, practical tools and experiential exercises.
• How to bring the approaches together and use them in your daily practice.

By the end of the day participants will:
• have gained a basic overview of Compassion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
• Will experience several techniques from each approach.
• Will have some tools they can share with clients.
Participants will receive a certificate of attendance that will count towards 6 hours of continuous professional development.

About the Facilitator
Helen Cook is an Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with significant experience in integrating Third Wave elements into her practice. She has extensive experience of working with people with a wide range of mental distress including trauma, anxiety disorders, depression, OCD, body image issues and burnout.
