This course will take place in Room 1S18 of the Dalhousie Building, Old Hawkhill, Dundee.

This course, initially aims to explain how and why the Nazis gained power in Germany by 1933. We will then consider how Hitler rapidly established a totalitarian dictatorship and the ways in which the new regime impacted the lives of different sections of German society. The course will also consider Hitler’s foreign policy and how Western democracies reacted to it. Finally, we will look at the descent to war in 1939 and the radicalisation of anti- Semitic policy 1933 – 45. The sessions will be enhanced through the examination of relevant artefacts from the period and suggestions for further reading. The relevance of this course in our current global geo-political environment will not be lost on attendees. Time will be set aside each week for questions and discussion.

Donald is a retired Principal Teacher of History whose enthusiasm for his subject and teaching continues.
