Did you know there is an Indian Princess buried in Doddinghurst, near Brentwood? This is all part of Brentwood's rich cultural heritage!Drop into Brentwood Library and find out more about Princess Helen Rundeer Singh Alhuwalia of Karpurthla, and the Punjabi heritage on your doorstep, with a pop-up exhibition curated by Simran Bance. The exhibit will be hosted by Brentwood Library 8-13 September and visit Ingatestone and Shenfield libraries in subsequent weeks.
Helen was the daughter of Randhir Singh, the ruling Maharajah in the state of Kapurthala in Punjab, and his third Rani Henrietta Melvina. She lived a short but interesting life.
This exhibit was curated by the Essex Cultural Diversity Project and this is its second display in our libraries.
