Zaba is an international, highly entertaining and unique musical duo that plays traditional dance music from Europe. Svetla Vladeva, from Bulgaria and Tomás Lozano from Spain, come together to create a lively and distinctive sound in the interpretation of traditional folk dance and songs from Europe as well as their compositions. Combining bayan accordion and hurdy gurdy, Zaba will make your feet move non stop.
Svetla Vladeva: Bayan accordion player Svetla Vladeva was born in Kazanlak, Bulgaria, and came to the United States in 1997. She has resided in Bloomington, Indiana for the past twenty-five years. Svetla graduated from the Academy of Music, Fine Arts and Dance in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, where she majored in music education, accordion, and piano. She has performed internationally and in local Bloomington venues such as the Lotus World Arts Festival and various concert halls at Indiana University.
Tomás Lozano: A singer, musician, composer, scholar and writer born in Barcelona, Spain, to Andalusian parents. Known for his ecliptic musicianship, Lozano's performance of Spain's traditional ballads stands out as iconic. Lozano is well-known for his musical compositions set to legendary poets. He performs his original compositions solo or accompanied,masterfully expressed through his smooth voice, the vibrant finger work on his guitar and the soothing droning of his hurdy gurdy.
