About this Event
Scottish-based Xan Tyler and Amsterdam-based Dusty Stray (Jonathan Brown) met through a mutual admiration of each other’s work. It didn’t take long before a transnational musical partnership began to take shape. Both accomplished solo artists in their own right—Tyler with her recent female empowerment inspired solo album Holding Up Half the Sky reaching number 4 in the Official Scottish Albums Chart, and Brown with six highly acclaimed albums under the Dusty Stray moniker—they now join forces on their first collaborative album Home.
In a world of fleeting connections, Xan Tyler & Dusty Stray offer a thoughtful testament to the enduring power of artistic companionship.
Home blends folk noir, art-rock, and Americana with understated experimental textures. Echoes of The Velvet Underground, Cowboy Junkies, and Leonard Cohen are present, but this duo carves out their own distinct sound.
Their live sound is captivating with their very different voices creating a harmony that feels unexpectedly perfect.
The Scotsman (4 stars)
"Glasgow-based vocalist Xan Tyler and Amsterdam-based Jonathan Brown, aka Dusty Stray, team up for an outwardly serene album of “endings and beginnings”, though their covers of Skeeter Davis’s The End of the World and Daniel Johnston’s True Love Will Find You In The End are both devastating dispatches in their way, the latter accompanied by drone and percussion. Their own material is winsome and graceful, elevated by the satisfying clash of Stray’s slightly weathered indie Americana tones with Tyler’s dreamy croon."
