About this Event
Step into the shadows of Greyfriars Kirkyard to walk the path of the man who redefined the age of the Earth. Join us for an exclusive RSE and Friends of Greyfriars Kirkyard historical tour tracing the life, burial and enduring legacy of James Hutton.
We will explore the resting places of the "Hutton Circle," including his close confidant and chemist Joseph Black, uncovering the web of friendships that fuelled the Scottish Enlightenment. With expert insights from a Greyfriars guide and a Fellow of the RSE, we’ll connect Hutton’s 18th-century breakthroughs to his vital role as a founding member of the RSE.
Experience the history beneath your feet and the ideas that changed the world.
The Friends of Greyfriars Kirkyard are a voluntary group who are passionate about celebrating this treasured Edinburgh space. Its mission is to help people understand, appreciate, and conserve the Kirkyard now and into the future.
