About this Event

Discover magic, mystery and found family in this tarot-inspired fantasy graphic novel.

Celebrate the launch of brand-new YA graphic novel series Arcana by Brighton-based author illustrator Sam Prentice-Jones. It’s a fantasy romance graphic novel series. In Arcana: The Lost Heirs, we find a world ruled by ancient spells and silent power in which five young witches are about to discover that the truth is the most dangerous thing of all. Sam will be in conversation with Shelley Jackson.

Sam Prentice-Jones is an author-illustrator working in Brighton UK who graduated from Arts University Bournemouth in 2019 with a BA Hons in Illustration, specialising in digital, graphic, character-based work. Sam likes to create work that celebrates diversity and queer culture and began his career by curating a queer illustration magazine titled POOF Magazine which ran 2019-2021. Since then, Sam has gone on to create work for the worlds of book publishing, web design, advertising and product design as well as being featured in art fairs across the UK.

Shelley Ann Jackson is an author, illustrator and designer of children’s books, and at ARU she is Associate Professor and Course Leader for the MA Children’s Book Illustration at Anglia Ruskin University. Her research centres on the element of time, the asynchronous collaboration between author and illustrator, and rhythmic syncopation (the relationship between words and pictures).
