Garrett Howell is a southern working man by day and a songwriter with a gift for creating melody at night. He carries forward his songs with a room-stopping vocal. Every day, he dons his hard hat and work boots and climbs into his clay-covered work truck to lead a team of fellow construction workers in and around Mobile, AL. When the day's work is done, Garrett trades his work truck for a guitar and gets his soul clean, playing his original music in clubs around the city.
Mixed by Grammy winning producer Trina Shoemaker (Brandi Carlile, Sheryl Crow, Charlie Crockett) ‘Born in the Summer' is the first single off a forthcoming album that has been growing from Garrett's life experiences—working hard to earn a living, looking in the mirror at night between a couple of cold beers to ask what his dream is, what he has learned, and whether he should follow his heart and go for this music thing. He has wanted to quit, but time and time again, his soul won't let him stop dreaming.
Garrett's first break came two years back when a national band called The Record Company played The Soul Kitchen in Mobile, and Garrett was a last-minute addition as the opening act. Chris Vos, singer of TRC, took note of the talent he was hearing and offered Garrett to join the rest of their tour. Garrett called his boss, threw his guitar in the truck, and followed The Record Company tour to TX. That run of shows started a friendship between Howell and Vos that encouraged Garrett to continue to find his voice, write more songs, and begin to believe he had to get his own material out into the world.
