An Evening with Emerson, Lake & PalmerThe music of Emerson, Lake & Palmer will return to Montreal on September 14 at Théâtre Saint-Denis in Welcome Back My Friends: An Evening with Emerson, Lake & Palmer. The show was created by Carl Palmer, the last remaining member of the British group’s classic 1970s lineup. The late Keith Emerson and Greg Lake both passed away in 2016.
Legendary drummer Palmer will be joined on stage by the other two members of his current band, ELP Legacy: Paul Bielatowicz and Simon Fitzpatrick. At the same time, rare footage of a live performance by the original group at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 1992 will be shown on screen. Through the use of innovative technology, the five musicians will play in perfect synchronicity to deliver a unique and authentic Emerson, Lake & Palmer show. Presented by Productions Martin Leclerc in partnership with Garber IMC, the event is part of a North American tour.
The Montreal performance will continue Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s love affair with the city. On August 26, 1977, accompanied by 70 other musicians, they played a stunning show for almost 74,000 spectators at the Olympic Stadium. The landmark concert was recorded and released worldwide as an album entitled Works Live.
Drawing on diverse influences that included classical music, jazz, and progressive rock, Emerson, Lake & Palmer rose to fame in the 1970s. Their signature sound, dominated by Emerson’s flamboyant use of the Hammond organ and Moog synthesizer, made them one of era’s most successful bands, with nearly 50 million records sold.
In 2022, with the full cooperation and involvement of the Keith Emerson and Greg Lake estates, Palmer created a show initially called The Return of Emerson, Lake & Palmer. Rebranded in 2025 as Welcome Back My Friends: An Evening with Emerson, Lake & Palmer, the show is a must-see both for existing fans of ELP and new generations who have yet to experience the band’s original, complex music.
