An Evening with Charlie's Promise

Charlie's Promise is about empowering young people and giving them the knowledge, the tools and the confidence to make safer choices.
About this Event

Charlie’s Promise was created in memory of Charlie Cosser, a bright, kind and funny young man from Surrey whose life was tragically taken by knife violence in July 2023. As Charlie lay fighting for his life, his dad Martin made him a promise — that he would spend the rest of his life educating young people about the dangers and immeasurable impacts of knife crime.

That promise became our purpose.

At Charlie’s Promise, we are driven by love, loss and determination to make change. We work to educate, inspire and support young people, helping them understand the impact of knife crime and empowering them to make safer, more positive choices.

We share Charlie’s story and the impact his death has had on his family, friends and the wider community. Using our real-lived experiences we show young people how decisions and choices can have severe consequences and ruin lives. We equip them with the knowledge of what they can do should they know of, or be in the presence of, a knife carrier.

We welcome parents / carers and children from the age of 12 to this talk. There are some hard hitting images and speech in Charlie's story so we ask that you take that into consideration when bringing younger children. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Phil Jebb and Glenys Balchin from Fearless will also be joining us on the evening. Fearless is the dedicated youth service of the independent charity Crimestoppers, and provides young people aged 11–18 with a safe and 100% anonymous way to report crime. Phil will be talking about the vital role Fearless plays in educating young people about the consequences of crime, while enabling them to share information without revealing their identity.

Experience Guildford's Town Safety Manager will be talking about safety initiatives in the town as well as Pubwatch and the Business Crime Reduction Partnership.
