We will have the distinct honor and pleasure of welcoming Boston Celtics legend and NBA Hall of Famer Robert Parish to The Silver Unicorn! In his new memoir, The Chief, the famously reserved Parish opens up for the first time about the full scope of his life—from attending a predominantly white high school during the uneasy years of integration to becoming the anchor of one of the greatest teams in NBA history. With honesty, humility, and plenty of dry humor, Parish reflects on his start with the Golden State Warriors and his trade to Boston, the years alongside Larry Bird and Kevin McHale, the Celtics’ epic rivalries of the 1980s, and the later years with the Charlotte Hornets and Chicago Bulls, before finally walking away from the game on his own terms.For this very special event, Robert will be in conversation with fellow author and Boston Globe columnist Gary Washburn. Robert will sign books at the end of the event. NOTE: Robert Parish will only be signing his book. Please do not ask him to sign memorabilia, basketballs, etc.
About Robert Parish:
A native of Shreveport, La., Robert "The Chief" Parish was named to both the NBA 50th Anniversary team in 1996, denoting the 50 greatest players in NBA history, as well as the NBA 75th Anniversary team in 2021 denoting the 75 greatest players in NBA history, Robert "The Chief" Parish is simply put, one of the greatest basketball players to have ever lived. He played in the NBA from 1976-1997, and when he retired, he had played in more seasons (21) and games (1,611) than anyone in NBA history, as well as the most defensive rebounds. He still ranks fifth in NBA history in defensive rebounds today, second in offensive rebounds, and eighth overall. He is a nine-time All-Star, was named to the All-NBA team twice, and is a four-time champion, three of which came right here in Boston, where he was a part of the first and best Big Three of all-time.

Gary Washburn is the national basketball writer and columnist and Celtics reporter at The Boston Globe, and has been a journalist for more than 20 years. A UC Berkeley graduate, Gary is also the secretary for the NABJ Sports Task Force and former President of the Bay Area Baseball Writers Association. He is also the co-author (with Marc J. Spears) of The Spencer Haywood Rule, about one of the most dominant and influential players in basketball history, and the author of Boston Celtics: An Illustrated Timeline.
