($15-$25 + DICE Fees | 6:30pm Show)Singer Ada Redd Austin is well known to Tucson audiences who recall her performances for over thirty years. She delivers her unique and beloved style from a lifetime of immersion in jazz, gospel and R+B music. A Tucson native, Ada has been named Best Gospel vocalist and Best Female Jazz Vocalist over the years. She has recently returned to Tucson after years away and this special evening will mark her grandest performance since coming home.
As a soloist and in musical theater, she has brought her soulful expression to audiences in performances throughout the United States in her long and rich career. Among her many public appearances and recordings, Ada is particularly proud of having performed at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. She lent her voice to \*the Sounds of the Season\*, the Christmas CD for The Arizona Children's Home and having sung for organizations including the NAACP, The National Urban League and several Martin Luther King Jr. celebrations. For Ada, Tucson is home. It is where she was born and raised, attended University, taught elementary school for 20 years and where her singing roots lie in the church where she still sings in the choir at The Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. Her first performance as a child happens to have been a talent show at The Dunbar so she is bringing her musical talent right back to where she started for one night only. Ada is a rare and inspired voice filled with a deep love of the music and stories she shares, enriched by the gratitude she feels for the gifts she has been given by her family and God.
