The Symone French Friend Club is a writers round experience presented by The Peoples Room of Mobile and hosted by Mobile’s very own, Symone French. Featuring an all-female lineup of writers from across the Southeast, The Symone French Friend Club seeks to highlight women in music while sharing the stories behind the songs. For this installment of the Friend Club, French is joined by Aybil (Memphis, TN), Rebecca Egeland (Birmingham, AL) and Chloé Marie (New Orleans, LA).
Memphis born singer-songwriter Aybil relishes the art of a well told story. In 2020, Aybil made their debut with the single Jordan Poole, a personal, haunting melody about war and addiction. Aybil has since released several projects pulling on traditional gospel, 60s folk/pop and hip-hop influences. Her goal is the creation of timeless music that illuminates the soul. www.aybilmusic.com

Chloé Marie is a professional singer-songwriter originally from Baton Rouge, LA and now based in New Orleans. Chloé has become a staple of the live music scene having shared the stage with artists such as Tank & the Bangas, The Black Pumas, The Preservation Hall All-Stars, Big Freedia, Pell, Son Little and many more. Along with her band, Chloé has performed at festivals such as the legendary New Orleans Jazz Festival, Skull & Roses (Ventura, CA) and the Baton Rouge Blues Festival. She has performed at many notable venues in both her hometown and surrounding cities such as Tipitina’s, The Varsity Theater, Chelsea’s Live, House of Blues: NOLA, Gasa Gasa, Howlin Wolf, Artmosphere (Lafayette), The Mohawk (Austin) and Cheer Up Charlie’s (Austin). In 2020, Chloé Marie began her solo music journey; picking up a guitar and subsequently writing a completely new set of fresh, Americana/folk-inspired tunes which she now plays with a band under her own name. Her first release post-pandemic, “Close Enough” featured standout track “Tall Lover” and many other that have solidified her place as one of the most promising emerging artists in New Orleans. In addition to being a seasoned live performer, Chloé is an accomplished musical theatre actor with over 10+ stage credits including One Night with Billie & Ella (Ella Fitzgerald), Cabaret (Sally Bowles), Dreamgirls (Deena), Hair (Dionne) Little Shop of Horrors (Chiffon) and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Columbia). msha.ke/chloemariemusic

Coined Mobile’s “Mistress of Soul”, Symone French has worked earnestly to establish herself as a vocal powerhouse since beginning her career in 2014. Throughout her journey, French has participated in nationally televised talent competitions (American Idol, NBC’s The Voice), performed at the Joshua Tree Music Festival alongside her band, The Trouille Troupe, and most recently, opened for Grammy award-winning artist Macy Gray. www.symonefrench.com
