✨ West Coast Swing is a versatile, evolving partner dance, anyone can choose to either lead or follow. This style can be danced to a variety of music including modern pop music and blues. West Coast Swing evolved from Lindy Hop to a smooth, elastic dance with a focus on connection, musicality, and creativity.
✨ Oceanside Dance is commited to accessibility: financial, sensory, mobility, cultural, etc. If you are experiencing a barrier to participating in this event, I would be grateful for the chance to learn from you what I am missing.
✨ About Hillary:
I have been developing my West Coast Swing dancing since 2022. I volunteered on the Board of the BC Swing Dance Club (https://bcswingdance.ca) for 2 years, and am currently volunteering for the Nanaimo West Coast Swing Collective (https://wcsnanaimo.com).
Stepping into teaching West Coast Swing, I draw from my earliest lessons with Zoltan and Yuka, years of weekly practice and fun at RX Vancouver, a love of welcoming new dancers to the community, and the experience of transferring my dance knowledge as a follow to dancing as a lead.
✨ Gathering on the unceded traditional territory of the Qualicum First Nation, I remind myself to carry with me the delight of dance toward healing and reconciliation with my self, with mother nature, and with my fellow human beings.
