About this Event
Join Italian Charities of America and Arba Sicula for a Sicilian Culture Night featuring a concert by Julia Patinella and a presentation by Dr. Gaetano Cipolla of Arba Sicula.
The evening will feature a musical concert by Julia Patinella, a multilingual singer and songwriter based in Brooklyn. The daughter of Sicilian immigrants, she has immersed herself in the music of her ancestors as well as other Mediterranean musical genres. Her performances in such venues as the Kaufman Music Center and La Mama Theatre draw from this expansive repertoire, including both original and traditional music. She aims to preserve the legacy of storytelling inherited from those who came before her, as well as to unite communities cross-culturally through old protest songs made new.
Dr. Gaetano Cipolla, President of Arba Sicula will be presenting two new books regarding Sicilian culture that he has published and will then present Arba Sicula's Sicelitude Prize to Louis R. Aidala, Esq. Arba Sicula’s Sicelitude Prize aims at recognizing members who have espoused the ideals of the organization and have contributed specifically towards the achievement of its goals, which are to study, preserve and disseminate the language and culture of Sicily around the world. A bronze award commissioned by sculptor Carlo Puleo will be given to the recipient.
This event is sponsored by Arba Sicula and Italian Charities of America with funding to Italian Charities of America's cultural programs from The Giambelli Foundation and NYC Discretionary Funding from Council Member Robert Holden.
