About this Event
This image from our first film could have been taken in Gaza today but is in fact a screenshot from a documentary film called Sands of Sorrow made in 1950 by the Council for the Relief of Palestine Arab Refugees. The film was created to show ' the squalid living conditions in refugee camps, starving children, and emphasises the hopeless condition of the refugees.' A byline that, tragically, could have equally been written today.
Our second film, How the Israeli State Brainwashes Children gives some insight as to how it could come about that 75 years later Palestinians in Gaza are back in makeshift tents, this time not just victims of ethnic cleansing, but of a genocide perpetrated by a Jewish State. Educator Hadas Emma Kedar gives a vivid description of her experiences as a pupil and later as a teacher in the Israeli education system and 'the deeply troubling ways it has "taught” students misleading versions of Israeli history, denied the existence of the Palestinian people and used fear to mould and shape their Zionist identities.’
Our third film, The Palestine Laboratory, illustrates how this dehumanisation of the Palestinian people over decades of a brutal occupation has been exploited for financial gain by Israel in its arms and surveillance industry. Jewish Australian journalist Antony Loewenstein investigates how cutting-edge military and surveillance technology is being used on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip, before being marketed to international clients as “field-proven” and “battle-tested”.
Once again we invite our audiences to share their responses to these films after the screening in an atmosphere of friendship and solidarity.
All proceeds will go to Taawan, the largest orphan care programme in Gaza, and to Palestine Children’s Relief that delivers urgent medical and other care, all under the aegis of the Together For Palestine Fund set up by Choose Love.
