About this Event
Join us the first Sunday in Advent for a celebration of Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose appearance to Juan Diego at the Hill in Tepeyac spurred the spread of Catholicism throughout the Americas.
The evening begins with the playreading of the Nican Mopohua, or Miracle Play. The Benedict XVI Institute just recently adapted the Nican Mopohua, the earliest account of Our Lady's appearance (the manuscript dates to 1556) originally in the Aztec language Nahautl into a short play in English as part of its Home Enthronement kit.
After the play, we launch into a discussion together into the significance of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness not only of Mexico but of all the Americas, with Guadalupe Scholars Joseph and Monique Gonzalez, authors of Guadalupe and the Flower Word Prophesies. Hear more from the Gonzalezes about the extensive research they've done into the Guadalupe appearance, in preparation for their new work "The Case for Guadalupe," part of Project Guadalupe 2031, a three-pronged project meant to answer Pope Francis’s call to build reverence for and honor Our Lady of Guadalupe.
Also as part of ProjectGuadalupe2031.org, the Benedict XVI Institute commissioned a new Litany to Our Lady of Guadalupe from renowned poet James Matthew Wilson, which has been approved for private use by Archbishop Cordileone, and which we will sing together to close the evening.
Refreshments, fellowship, and fun follows with a dose of artistic networking. Be part of the new Catholic Renaissance. The event, appropriate for adults and high schoolers, is free but your donations are appreciated and help us keep these events going: $25 is the suggested donation per person which is pretty good for dinner, a concert and a show but your presence and your prayers are the gift we really cherish. Registering helps us plan the reception. Come!
This event is sponsored by Catholic Answers, St. Michael's Abbey, and Hallow.
