Treat yourself to an absolutely enchanting afternoon of the melodic jazz/pop of Annie Moscow and stellar valley musicians including Vanessa Purdy on backup vocals and guitar, Wesley Skinner on cello, John Herrera on percussion and Frank Smith on woodwinds and keys. The concert will feature many of Moscow’s originals, as well as a few unexpected arrangements on classic standards.
Originally from Philadelphia, Annie Moscow first began her career as a classical pianist and then a songwriter. At Indiana University, she majored in piano and studied jazz with David Baker. Her writing credits include Sarah Vaughn, Sister Sledge and Mickey Mouse. Since 2000, she has released six solo CDs and has written and performed twelve original musical shows for the Herberger Theater.
Wesley Skinner is the principal cellist for The Arizona Philharmonic with degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and Arizona State University. He has won awards internationally as a soloist and chamber musician in addition to his music composition for theater here in Arizona. Wesley works with hundreds of cellists yearly between his private studio, summer teaching, and community outreach. His competition wins include the Cleveland Institute of Music and the ASU Concerto Competitions. Wesley also served as founding member of the Laniakea String Quartet, which won first prize in The Sixth Hong Kong International Chamber Music Competition.
Vanessa Purdy has been a Arizona musician and studio backup singer in the greater PHX area for over four decades. She has performed at most of the top resorts in the Valley, and at Duck and Decanter from 1983-1999. Vanessa is an internationally acclaimed voice teacher. She began her voice teaching studies in 1997 with Seth Riggs and specializes in vocal rehab and science-based vocal development. Her clients have appeared in major motion pictures, Miss America Pageants, tv shows, Top 10 on Country Western charts, top 5 on The Voice and American Idol.
Frank Smith (keys & woodwinds): Frank Smith is a multitalented individual. His background includes music, teaching, aviation and psychotherapy. Frank has a Bachelor’s degree in music composition. More importantly however, are the 50 years of professional experience. Frank has played with a wide range of internationally known stars. Here are just a few of the names: Gladys Knight and the Pips, The Coasters, Frankie Valle, Little Anthony and the Imperials, The Diamonds, The Fifth Dimension etc. In addition he has been a featured soloist with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra and was the woodwind soloist on the ABC Network Television series “Evening Shade.”
