About this Event
An Ecology of Beasts is Common Index’s first in-person gathering, hosted by TXT Studio.
Opening on Saturday, January 24 at 6:30 pm, the event brings together friends, collaborators, and first-time visitors in a shared space. An environment shaped by installations, music, people, and a few drinks. The exhibition, developed in close collaboration with Sole Studio, was shaped through shared intuition, dialogue, and care, defining the spatial conditions in which the event takes place. The space will remain open throughout the weekend, January 24 and 25.
At the heart of the project is a collective experiment that reflects the diversity of the community we move within. Through an open call, participants were invited to draw a card from a bestiary deck and reinterpret the creature they received through their creative minds. The resulting works will be screened during the event and gathered into a shared index of creatures, an evolving archive of forms, interpretations, and encounters.

Workshop by Giacomo Baccega / Sensing Beyond the Human
Host: Giacomo Baccega
Info: Sensing Beyond the Human: A Multi-Threaded Lab with TouchDesigner & Arduino.
What forms of intelligence do more-than-human life forms possess? What do they perceive? How do they express themselves? In “Sensing Beyond the Human,” we will experiment with various non-human forms of perception. Participants will explore the translation of infrared stimuli into sound, ultrasonic waves into visual information, and movement analysis into communicative signals. Through these experiments, we will construct rudimentary bundles of perception—tools for communicating in more-than-human ways, with more-than-human creatures and ecologies.
To do so, the workshop will employ a technical framework based on Arduino, sensors, and TouchDesigner, combining speculative inquiry with hands-on experimentation.
The workshop, open to 6 participants, will take place on Sunday, January 25th, from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM, and will be held at TXT Studio, Piazza Morbegno 5, Milan.
