About this Event
Light pollution. Have you ever heard of this term? How can something as essential as light even be associated with pollution? And yet, there it is. For several centuries, we have become accustomed to lighting up artificial light sources after dark, considering them natural. But it’s not. Living organisms, both, plants and animals, have adapted to the natural cycle of day and night for tens of millions of years. Our biorhythms work in accordance with sunrise and sunset. The artificial disruption of this cycle has serious consequences, not only for our health but also for the environment and the economy. So why is the increasing level of artificial lighting dangerous for us? The Dark Side of Light takes a look at what is hidden under the term light pollution and what each of us can do about it.
The second feature, Audio Universe, takes audiences on an adverture through the Solar System like never before - by traveling on a spacecraft that turns the objects in space into sound! The audience of this stunning show are transported inside a special spacecraft that takes them to the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope to view the stars in the night sky, before lifting them off into space to visit the Earth, Moon, Sun and all the planets of the Solar System. Unlike traditional planetarium shows the soundtrack takes the lead role. Each of the objects in space are represented with sounds as well as being presented with the incredible visuals. This show is designed to be educational for children but proves to be an entertaining experience for people of all ages.
