George Gershwin’s wildly popular "An American in Paris" is a vibrant orchestral piece that blends classical structure with jazz influences, capturing the spirit and energy of 1920s Paris through the eyes of an American visitor. Conductor Bruce Briney leads the QSO through the playful rhythms, bluesy melodies, and even car horns, painting a lively portrait of the city’s bustling streets and romantic charm. It’s playful, colorful, and heartfelt—an irresistible mix of American jazz spirit and Parisian flair that’s sure to leave you smiling.Guest pianist Thomas Lymenstull will join the orchestra for Gershwin’s Piano Concerto, which showcases the composer’s signature blend of sophistication and American charm. Quincy-native Lymenstull has performed throughout the US, in Japan, China, and Europe. Until his retirement in 2024, he was Instructor of Piano at Interlochen Arts Academy.
The concert will also include Leonard Bernstein’s "Overture to Candide"--a dazzling, fast-paced orchestral work bursting with wit, energy, and theatrical flair.
Single ticket are $18 for adults and $15 for seniors 62 and older. Children 18 and younger are free to all concerts. Tickets are available online now at or online at QSOA.org. or on Sept. 1 at HyVee, Sturhahn Jewelers, and the QSOA office at 1026 Maine St.
Season tickets offer a substantial savings over single ticket prices and are available now at QSOA.org. Adults are $70, seniors are $60. A special offer allows first-time season ticket holders to get two season tickets for the price of one.
