No, punk is not dead! Their music is over-the-top, their sweat is dripping, their singer is screaming into the microphone, they've got gorgeous mullet haircuts and their live shows are blowing up in your face. Amyl and The Sniffers have been the most exciting punk rock band of the genre for a few years now. And the good news is that, three years after the release of their second album, they're back with two hot new singles and new tour dates!
With a name derived from amyl nitrite, better known as ‘poppers’, the stage is immediately set. All hailing from Melbourne, the new Mecca of indie rock, Amy Taylor, charismatic heiress to the feminist riot grrrl movement, is accompanied by three excellent ear degreasers: Bryce Wilson (drums), Gus Romer (bass) and Dec Martens (guitar). Their alchemy is as strong as the smell of diesel that emanates from their rough-hewn sound. Provocative as can be, they are releasing their debut self-titled album in 2019. AC/DC-style guitars carry Amy's voice to perfection, reminiscent of Iggy & The Stooges. The same year, their compatriots King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard took them on a US tour, and both bands triumphed. That same year, Amyl's band played at Rock Werchter. The machine was launched. In 2021, the band released the excellent ‘Comfort to Me’, a second album that smacked of experience, better polished and even more vigorous than their debut. Now, three years later, the band are making a comeback with two muscular new singles produced by Nick Launay (Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, Yeah Yeah Yeahs...). ‘Facts’ and ‘U Should Not Be Doing That’, two hyper-fronted tracks, in which our favourite badass unleashes all her harangue with humour and a touch of cynicism for those with the annoying habit of criticising at every turn....
