Amplify Your Life - Assistive Listening Device (ALD) Seminar
Using practical hearing tools for clearer communication, better sound and greater confidence
Did you know there is a whole world of hearing support beyond hearing aids?
Join BHA Brisbane for an informative and hands-on session exploring Assistive Listening Devices, also known as ALDs. These are practical tools and technologies that can help people with hearing loss hear more clearly, communicate more easily, feel safer at home and stay more connected in everyday life.
This session is designed for people with hearing loss, as well as family members, friends and supporters who want to better understand the options available. Whether you already wear hearing aids or not, ALDs can often make a real difference in situations where hearing is still difficult, such as group conversations, watching TV, talking on the phone, hearing in background noise or noticing important sounds around the home.
During the session, we will introduce and demonstrate a range of devices and tools that may help in different listening situations. These may include:
- TV listening headphones and TV streamers
- Personal amplifiers, sometimes called pocket talkers
- FM and Roger systems
- Hearing loops or induction loops
- Bluetooth microphones for hearing aids or earbuds
- Captioning devices and live caption apps
- Alerting devices such as flashing doorbells, vibrating alarms and smoke alarm alerts
- Remote microphones for meetings, restaurants and group settings
- Smartphone-based tools and accessories that can also act as assistive listening devices
We will also explore how these tools can help with common hearing challenges, including:
hearing speech more clearly in noisy environments
- following conversations when someone is speaking from a distance
- improving communication with family, friends and colleagues
- reducing frustration and listening effort
- increasing confidence, independence and safety at home and in the community
- getting better results from hearing aids or using alternatives where hearing aids are not enough
This is a great opportunity to see what is available, ask questions, and learn about practical options that may make everyday life easier and more enjoyable.
Whether you are newly exploring hearing support or looking for additional tools to complement your current hearing devices, this session will help you better understand what is possible.
Who should attend?
People with hearing loss, family members, carers, friends and anyone interested in learning more about assistive listening technology.
