AMOC x Therefore Presents: Phantoms

Arts Mission Oak Cliff partners with Therefore Art, Sound, and Performance Group for a site-specific performance in the AMOC Sanctuary. "Phantoms" explores various belief systems and the individual’s relationship to them. The work aims to investigate, expose, and sometimes deconstruct these systems as a means for personal liberation and collective growth. Through movement, text, sound, experimental video and other technologies, Therefore will transform the Sanctuary into a new world, one which blurs the lines between reality and performance.

Therefore is a transmedia art and performance group directed by Dean Terry. It started as a music recording project in the 1990’s in Denton, TX and then Los Angeles, CA and became a transmedia performance art group in 2016. Therefore creates challenging art and performance experiences incorporating live video, sound, electronic music, and performance art. The roots of the work are in performance, Dada, happenings, conceptual art, experimental music, and poetry. Early Therefore performances included Acoustic Nerves at Texas Theater, The World’s Safest Art Show, and a performance at Medianale. In 2018, Therefore sold out three nights at the AT&T Performing Art Center for The Alexa Dialogues, and returned to full houses in June 2023 with Poems for Broken Screens. Therefore has been supported by: Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs, The Elevator Project, AT&T Performing Arts Center, Texas Commission on the Arts, University of Texas at Dallas.
