About this Event
Earning vocal support from Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, Jean-Luc Godard, Quentin Tarantino, Claire Denis, John Carpenter, Leos Carax, Adèle Haenel, and more, the La Clef Revival Collective has invigorated Paris' cinephile culture since 2019. Amnesiascope is proud to partner with them for a U.S. screening of Lina Soualem's Bye Bye Tiberias.
In her early twenties, Hiam Abbass (Succession, Blade Runner 2049) left Palestine to follow her dream of becoming an actress in Europe, leaving behind her mother, grandmother, and seven sisters. 30 years later, she and her filmmaker daughter Lina return to the village and question these bold choices—her chosen exile and the way the women in their family influenced both their lives. Braiding together old and new family records with pre-1948 archival material, including poetry and personal narrative, Soualem tells a story of four generations of women working hard to mend the seams of multiple separations, forced and chosen.
