Since our first night, if anyone had asked us who our ideal headliner would be, without hesitation, we would have said DJ Spinn.Few artists are as synonymous with any genre as Spinn is with footwork. Cutting his teeth as a DJ playing old-school house and Detroit techno in 90s Chicago, he joined the influential dance crew House–O–Matics, before becoming part of Wolf Pac alongside the legendary DJ Rashad. Drawing on these influences and utilising a range of hardware, Spinn & Rashad’s skill as DJs combined with their ability to combine the sampling techniques of hip-hop with dance-oriented rhythms and sub-basses, made them figureheads of the movement, a status that Spinn hasn’t relinquished. Founding the Teklife label, the two took footwork across the globe, including Sheffield’s own ‘Harley’. Following Rashad’s tragic passing in 2014, Spinn has continued to spread the joy of footwork to new generations of listeners, including ourselves. We are overwrought with excitement to announce that on the 22nd of February, we are bringing DJ Spinn to the intimate Plot 22 to dance until the early hours and celebrate all things Footwork.
Alongside him, are two of the new generation of Footwork evangelists. Amledd favourite Sterlo will return with an eclectic opening set spanning East Coast Club, Grime, Bass and Footwork. Having supported the likes of DJ Earl & Big Dope P, Shannon From Admin will finish the night with a barrage of contemporary Footwork and more.
