The museum is located south of Sheffield on the River Sheaf and was once a steel working site with a rich history dating back to the 13th century.
In 1964, Abbeydale Works underwent a renovation, leading to the discovery of six buildings, including a lime and coke shed and a boiler house that had been present on a 1924 site map.
