THE SHENANIGANS
DEDE ONDISHIKO, Ph.D. (fiddle, keys and vocals) started playing piano at the age of seven at the Peabody Conservatory and went on to Carnegie Mellon University and Eastman School of Music (Ph.D.). Dede is a retired music teacher and continues to enjoy writing concert music. She plays fiddle with both Prickly Pear Jam at O'Caine's on Saturday afternoons and the Scottish Fiddlers of LA seasonally. Dede co-hosts the Bluegrass Jam at Date Palm on the second Sunday of each month. Her favorite thing about music: it connects us heart to heart.
JASON POWELL, Ph.D. is our only true local leprechaun. In disguise during the day hours as a music teacher, musician, author, artist, woodworker, and family man; you can occasionally catch him sneaking about in his true form performing Irish music as "Plastic Paddy's Midlife O'Crisis" or his Irish Duo, "Paradox in Clover" with Dr. Dede Ondishko. ¨Music is the only true magic we have. TROY GARZA is a songwriter and bass vocalist, is a veteran of Broadway's A CHORUS LINE where he spent fourteen years as a performer and dance captain for the show. He was the choreographer at SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE for ten seasons and is best known for the famous CHIPPENDALES sketch starring Patrick Swayze and Chris Farley. Troy writes both music and lyrics for his original, mostly humorous songs.
JAN 18 - JOYCE PAN (fiddle) AND DAVID AKS (cello): Contemporary Celtic Duo
Joyce and David come from similar classical backgrounds, but they met in The Scottish Fiddlers of Los Angeles where they were both discovering the amazing world of Celtic Fiddling. Never having played this music before, the learning curve was steep. But what they found was a world of extraordinary musicians playing music that was full of life, passion and unbridled joy. Because of its origins as dance music, there is a rhythmic drive and foot-stomping excitement (yes, it’s not only OK to stomp your feet, but it’s encouraged!) that is usually absent in the classical world. Joyce and David soon found that their classical backgrounds and desires for new musical challenges (along with their addiction to funky grooves) meshed perfectly to reinvigorate old fiddle tunes and write some new ones of their own. APRIL 4 - THE MUDBUGS: CANDY AND KEN JACKSON
The Mudbugs music can best be described as true roots music from the South. The Mudbugs duo, Candy and Ken, serve up a delicious Americana Musical Gumbo. You’ll hear a bit of Country, Blues, Cajun, Norteño and Folk. The Mudbugs play classic tunes by Hank Williams, Dwight Yoakum, Doc Watson, and Ramon Ayala just to name a few, as well as many original songs penned by KG who is a prolific songwriter. The musical duo is made up of KG Jackson on acoustic guitar and captivating vocals while his wife Candy shows that accordion is not just for polkas.

Americana is a broad category, predominantly acoustic. It encompasses bluegrass, country, blues, folk, traditional, soft rock, Indie, and so much more!
ORIGINAL SONG WRITERS ARE ENCOURAGED! (We don't use tracks)
ALL PARTICIPANTS MUST HAVE A TICKET.
A small number of tickets will be available at the door.
ALL PRE-REGISTERED PERFORMERS NEED TO SHOW UP AT 5PM TO CONFIRM THEIR OPEN MIC SPOT.
At 5:15PM any remaining unconfirmed slots will be given away to other performers if there is a wait list.
PERFORMANCE SLOTS ARE 10 MIN.
2 SONGS/NUMBERS (includes set up time).
ON SITE EQUIPMENT: Electric Piano, 4 Cordless Microphones, 2 Line Level Cables are available for your use.
