With back-to-back book releases, Amazon Labor Union co-founders Derrick Palmer and Chris Smalls come together for a joint-book event! On April 1, 2022, the Amazon warehouse known as JFK8, in Staten Island, notched an improbable victory when its workers voted to become the company’s first unionized facility. Now, after years of traveling across the country to help workers at Amazon and other corporations form their own unions, Palmer and Smalls share their respective sides of this modern-day David vs. Goliath story, with a mutual call for future action! Practical, philosophical, and full of personality, Palmer’s manual-cum-manifesto Handbook for the Revolution is the definitive and accessible how-to guide to workplace organizing. Smalls' When the Revolution Comes is a riveting and deeply personal account of his life and inside story of the creation of the ALU, offering both a searing exposé of what it’s like to be working class in America and inspiring evidence of what is possible when the overworked, underpaid, and disempowered join together, a movement born in community. Local media figure Touré, host of , joins Palmer and Smalls for an in-depth discussion before an audience Q&A, hosted by Lafayette Avenue Presbyterian Church (just 2 blocks from Greenlight), a congregation with a history of social justice activism.
This event is free with RSVP; optional donations benefit LAPC. Books available for preorder or for purchase onsite.
