Sporty Girls hosts amateur women's pickleball tournaments as fundraisers to benefit Storytime Books (storytimebooks05.org).
About this Event

Sporty Girls hosts for-fun amateur pickleball tournaments to benefit Storytime Books, a nonprofit organization that gives children's books to families who need them.

We are now offering three divisions. Be sure to register in the correct division!

The Novice division is for beginners—people who have just learned the game of pickleball. This division will be monitored! Do not sandbag; experienced players who register in this division will be moved to the Recreational or Open division (depending, and only if space is available) or disqualified (with no refund). The Sporty Organizers reserve the right to reclassify or disqualify sandbagging teams upon observation of play at any time.

The Recreational division (also known as the "chill" division) is for players between the beginner and intermediate ranges who are more interested in having fun than winning. This division will be monitored! Do not sandbag; competitive players who register in this division will be moved to the Open division (if space is available) or disqualified (with no refund). The Sporty Organizers reserve the right to reclassify or disqualify sandbagging teams upon observation of play at any time.

The Open division (also known as the "thrill" division) is for intermediate, experienced, and/or competitive players. Players in this category identify as 3.0 and above on the USAPA ranking system (https://usapickleball.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/USAPA-Skill-Rating-Definitions-2020.pdf). Open teams will not be monitored or reclassified.

Players and fans are expected to comport themselves with courtesy, integrity, and good sportsmanship.

Tournament format

  • Doubles teams play randomly drawn pool games, which determines seeding for the single-elimination brackets.
  • All teams advance to their division's single-elimination bracket.
  • All games except the championship game are to 11 (must win by 2).
  • Championships in each division will be one game to 15.
  • Coin toss determines "Serve" or "Side."

Referees: For all games except the championships, players call their own lines and faults and keep their own scores. Scoresheet is initialed by each team; winning team submits scoresheet to the TD. For the championship games, teams may request tournament directors to call base- and sidelines.

Nets: Four portable nets will be set up on outdoor asphalt courts. The height and tautness of a net can be adjusted by agreement of both teams on that court.

Balls: Outdoors balls will be provided for each court.

All other rules are according to the USA Pickleball 2024 Rulebook (https://usapickleball.org/what-is-pickleball/official-rules/). The tournament directors will have a copy of the rulebook onsite.

Prizes

Both partners of each first-place team will receive $50 VISA gift cards.

Donations are requested!

Your player fee of $50 benefits Storytime Books!

Partners register individually. Make sure your partner registers ASAP, too! If you do not have a partner, please respond "NEED PARTNER" when prompted, and we will find you one.

  • Registration is online only.
  • A waiting list will be available. Players on the waiting list will be notified of an open spot and have 24 hours to register.
  • Entry fees will be refunded via Eventbrite if registered players withdraw 7 days before tournament day. Later withdrawals will not be refunded for any reason.
  • If the tournament is canceled, registration fees will be refunded via Eventbrite. (Or you can donate your refund to Storytime Books.)

Wellness precautions

This is an outdoor event. We support anybody who wants to wear a mask. We will have hand sanitizer and wipes available. There is a bathroom onsite where you can wash your hands, too. DO NOT come if you feel sick. If you are ill or have another emergency that forces your withdrawal, please call or text us ASAP at 408-313-6930. Thank you!
