OS Grid Ref: SK 10488 45189 .
Info: A walk all around the outside of Alton Towers. We will start by going around the Weaver Hills and the JCB test quarry before visiting the hamlets of Ramshorn and Farley. We will then cross to Barbary Gutter and the Chained Oak. Turning left along the old railway track we will climb up to Ina’s Rock and then down to the JCB test track. Going through the secret hole in the wall, we will pass through the grounds of Wootton Lodge, a grand grade 1 listed building owned by the Bamford family. Finally it’s back up the hill to Wootton and Dalton’s Dairy with the option of a delicious ice cream from their honesty shop. Not only will there be chance to see wildlife including deer and pheasants but we may also be lucky and see JCB diggers not to mention glimpses of the rides at Alton Towers.
