About this Event
Today I climbed the hill alone,
And stood beside the arch of stone.
The landscape smiled beneath the sun;
The strong wind waved the ripened corn.
The sunshine glorified the trees,
And roused to life the drowsy bees.
--Autumn in a New Hampshire Village by Arthur W. Anderson (1919)
You are invited to join Randy Miller in climbing this hill of history! With eighty beautiful slides, Randy will present a detailed look at the origins of Alstead -- a typical Cheshire County town -- in the 18th century. The town's journey from first settlement to thriving community will be illuminated, with a look at how circumstances shaped the town's response to the American Revolution, and some of the opposition to authority that led to revolt.
