Alpine Level 1 prep clinic for those going for the exam. Topics will change weekly to practice skillsets needed for the exam.
About this Event

This training clinic if for employees of Powder Mountain Ski & Snowboard School ONLY.

This will be done in 5 week sessions, progressively builiding off previous clinic.

PSIA Level 1 Resources

Level 1 Outcomes

  1. Stability – engage both ankles and minimize useless upper – body movement
  2. Leave round tracks – make the distinction between pushing on the skis and guiding the skis
  3. Preserve momentum – make the distinction between braking and gliding during a wedge straight run and the finish phase of the turns.

Activities and Outcomes for Sessions 1 – 5

Session 1 - Video Baseline: Each group will video 2 activities and review the video with their group to help establish a baseline of competence in at least 1 of the following areas: skiing, teaching, or movement analysis.

Outcomes: Each participant will use the video to achieve at least 1 of the following outcomes.

  1. Participants with a skiing emphasis – identify their most relevant technical focus that will lead to the most significant performance change.
  2. Participants with a teaching emphasis – identify a relevant technical focus in their own skiing and make a lesson plan.
  3. Participants with an MA emphasis – identify an accurate and relevant technical focus for at least 2 skiers from their group.

Session 2 – Alignment: Each group will focus on a specific element of alignment that is the most relevant for their level of performance.

Level 1 – Stability emphasis – reduce useless movements

Session 3 – Turning movement emphasis: Each group will focus on creating accurate turning movements that are the most relevant for their level of performance.

Level 1 – Guiding emphasis: use the outside leg to guide the outside ski through a round arc

Proposed activity: guided uphill arc

Session 4 – Alignment Emphasis: revisit the alignment for each group that is most relevant for their level of performance.

Level 1 – Stability emphasis – reduce useless movements

Session 5 – Turning movement emphasis: revisit the accurate turning movements that are the most relevant for their level of performance.
