Bestselling author Allen Eskens, known for The Life We Bury and nine other acclaimed novels, including his latest, The Quiet Librarian, is a celebrated voice in crime and suspense fiction. A recipient of the Barry, Minnesota Book, Left Coast Crime, and Silver Falchion Awards, Eskens has also been a finalist for the Edgar®, Thriller, Anthony, and Nero Awards, with his work translated into 23 languages. With degrees in journalism and law, and an M.F.A. in creative writing, Eskens brings a rich depth to his storytelling, shaped by his upbringing in central Missouri and a 25-year career in criminal law. He now resides in Minnesota with his wife, Joely.
In The Quiet Librarian, Allen Eskens weaves a gripping tale of transformation, vengeance, and buried secrets. Hana Babic, a reserved Minnesota librarian, is thrust back into her dark past when her best friend is murdered—a chilling echo of her life as Nura Divjak, a legendary Bosnian militia fighter known as the Night Mora. Now, with her friend’s grandson in her care and a killer closing in, Hana must confront the horrors she fled to protect the child and herself. This sweeping novel delves into the enduring impact of war, family, and love, examining how trauma and resilience shape identity across decades.
