All You Need Is Love - Romain Berger " From 28 July to 6 August, the Retramp gallery is hosting the exhibition "All you need is love" by French artist photographer Romain Berger.
Opening night on Friday 28 July from 6pm in the presence of the artist.
The Retramp gallery will be the third date of this tour which will have been previously presented in France and in England.
ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE is a message of tolerance and love in a society that is regressing day by day, putting the lives of queer people more and more at risk.
Come and celebrate with us the freedom to be who we want to be, without judgement and without debate.
ABOUT THE ARTIST :
ROMAIN BERGER is a photographer of the French scene, born at the end of the 80s in Normandy (Cherbourg).
With a background in film and theatre, he has long been fascinated by images, popular culture, stereotypes and gender issues.
He produces artistic works that are offbeat, cinematographic, colourful and gently provocative. He unabashedly claims to be a camp artist, a concept that designates, among other things, a form of self-mockery that allows gay men to laugh at the difficulties of their condition in a homophobic society, all with artifice and exaggeration.
This is why he voluntarily takes clichés from gay culture and twists them in order to highlight our world, both in its best and worst aspects (loneliness, superficiality, overconsumption, violence, addiction, sex, politics ...)
We all have hidden vices, and what interests him is not the public image, but our secrets and what goes on in private. A way of criticising the hypocrisy of the human race and the political correctness imposed by a patriarchal society. Life has no rules, we are the only masters of our game.
Influenced by photographer David Lachapelle's staging and director Gregg Araki's aestheticism for his colours, his work is an ode to life, love and freedom of expression.
A subculture artist, he is the photo equivalent of so-called independent cinema. He does not follow the current trends and mixes cinema and queer universe to the extreme, far from the photographic fashion of the moment, which seeks the maximum of naturalness. Little valued in his own country, he finds his recognition abroad where he is often celebrated, whether in magazines or exhibitions.
Thanks to this recognition abroad, the English publisher Men on paper art published in September 2022, LIFE'S A CABARET, a book on his work, gathering all his photographs since 2018. In this continuity, Germany has published SEX UTOPIA, a 400-page book, presenting 70 artists from all over the world, of which he is a part alongside the artists Pierre et Gilles.
