About this Event
Join us for this second installment of the Alien Embodiments series presented by the Gray Center's new Co-Laboratory for Arts and Science.
We usually don’t mind our bodies; they are our vehicles to act in the world – unless they start to act up, stop "working" the way we expect them to; if we become ill; grow old; or, in the case of some humans, pregnant. Sometimes, in these instances, we perceive our body as alien. The alien is a figure prone to deal with the unknown. In today’s event, we will talk about productive and unlikely relationships between the figure of the alien in the Alien movie franchise, pregnant bodies and birth, and slime as a matter of self-care. Join us for this conversation moderated by Desiree Foerster with our guests (Cinema and Media Studies, University of Chicago), (University of Chicago Medicine), and (Anthropology, University of Chicago and School of the Art Institute of Chicago).
