Alcohol Awareness & Supporting People Workshop
Delivered as part of Alcohol Awareness Week, this interactive workshop is designed for professionals working with individuals who may be affected by alcohol use across Birmingham services. The session aims to refresh alcohol knowledge, increase confidence in having conversations around alcohol, and explore practical ways to support service users through harm reduction, brief interventions, and local referral pathways.
The workshop will combine learning with discussion, activities, case studies, and real-world scenarios to create an engaging and practical session relevant to frontline work.
Topics will include:
- Alcohol awareness and current trends
- Alcohol-related harm and hidden dependency
- Alcohol and mental health
- Recognising signs and risk factors
- Non-judgemental conversations and reducing stigma
- Brief interventions and motivational approaches
- Harm reduction and withdrawal risks
- Supporting service users and signposting to local resources
- Birmingham support pathways and services
The session is suitable for professionals across health, social care, housing, criminal justice, mental health, community, and voluntary sector services.
You will still find a benefit from this, even if you have attended our Drug and Alcohol sessions before.
Participants will leave with increased confidence, practical tools, and resources that can be applied within day-to-day practice.
Interactive activities and group discussion will be included throughout the workshop.
This course is for health and social care workers, volunteers, or professionals working in Birmingham only. If you’re outside Birmingham, please contact your local services for training.
