“Di rayze aheym / The journey home” is an album representing an intergenerational connection between two queer Jewish artists: trailblazing poet Irena Klepfisz’s words have been set to music by singer, songwriter, and guitarist Avi Fox-Rosen. Irena was writing in English and Yiddish in the early 1980s after her first return to her native Warsaw. Avi’s musical adaptations bridge traditional Yiddish musical forms with contemporary songwriting, creating a dialogue between past and present to imagine a vibrant future right here.
Join us to celebrate the release of this new album, featuring Irena reading her own poetry! With Ira Temple opening the evening, and the band lead by Avi Fox-Rosen featuring Alicia Svigals on fiddle and Marilyn Lerner on piano.
With:
Irena Klepfisz: reading her own words
Avi Fox-Rosen: voice and guitar
Alicia Svigals, Rima Fand: violins
Marilyn Lerner: piano
Zoe Guigeno: bass
Jason Nazary: drums
