WONDERFUL SURPRISES AWAIT YOU ALL.What do we say to a smart, subversive, satirical thriller that expertly skewers damn near every aspect of fine dining and social media food culture? Yes chef! THE MENU from director Mark Mylod (Succession, Game of Thrones) is a sumptuously prepared feast of dark humor and slow burn thrills that culminates in an ending so deliciously twisted you’ll be ordering seconds. It follows a group of wealthy foodies on an excursion to the prestigious Hawthorne, the isolated restaurant run by the famous and highly-renowned Chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes, THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL). As the courses come out one after the other, it becomes abundantly clear that the chefs are cooking up something far more sinister than haute cuisine.
As much as it pokes fun at chef worship, fine dining, and our obsession with posting pics of everything we eat, there’s an undeniable love of food at the center of THE MENU that reminds us it’s ok to just keep it simple every once in a while. Ralph Fiennes is phenomenal as the icy Chef Slowik at the center of the bloody evening. Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult are also standouts as an obsessive foodie and his unimpressed date, while John Leguizamo, Janet McTeer, and Hong Chau impress as a washed-up movie star, a haughty food critic, and a psychotic hostess respectively. One more thing; we know our food is totally grammable, but please refrain from taking pictures of it – during the movie that is, go wild beforehand.
Tickets to this screening are $11.
