I’m excited to share our next monthly singles event and an update to our regular schedule.
This month’s event: Celebration at the Station
On Sunday, May 24, we’ll head to Celebration at the Station, the Kansas City Symphony’s annual Memorial Day weekend event at Union Station / National WWI Museum and Memorial.
Because it’s a Sunday and the day before Memorial Day, this event is meant to be very flexible:
• We will all drive separately, so you can arrive when you’re able and leave when you need to.
• This is a great option if you serve on Sundays or already have some holiday plans but still want to connect with the group for part of the evening.
What is the event schedule?
• 5:00 pm — Pre-concert performance by the United States Air Force Academy Band’s Stellar Brass Quintet
• 6:00 pm — Pre-concert performance by Raptor, rock band from the United States Air Force Heartland of America Band
• 8:00 pm — Kansas City Symphony concert
• 9:30 pm — Fireworks
• 10:00 pm — Event concludes
When and where to meet
Let’s plan to gather on the south lawn of the National WWI Museum and Memorial, facing Union Station, which is the main area where people sit for the concert and fireworks.
Meeting time: Aim to arrive at 6:00 pm. The opening band should be wrapping up at this time and we can find a place to sit together. If you’d like to arrive earlier to catch one of the opening performances, we would love for you to meet up with us when we all arrive.
What to bring / Event guidelines
To help everyone enjoy the evening, please plan for the following:
Bring:
o A lawn chair/blanket/other seating for sitting on the lawn
o Water to stay hydrated (especially if it’s hot)
Do NOT bring:
o Glass containers, which are not allowed on the festival grounds
o Pets, which are also not permitted at the event
There will be plenty of food trucks and vendors on-site if you’d like to purchase dinner or snacks during the evening.
