Akshara Theatre has been one of New Delhi`s most beloved cultural spaces for over five decades, founded by legendary theatre personalities Gopal Sharman and Jalabala Vaidya. This summer, their tradition of nurturing young artists continues with a month-long production workshop for children, led by Anasuya Vaidya, who has been training children here for over 30 years.
This is not a conventional summer camp. Over four weeks, children explore theatre, music, Sanskrit chanting, yoga, movement, storytelling, and art, with dedicated painting sessions for younger children. Every week, a guest from the world of performing arts joins the group for an informal conversation about their craft. The month culminates in a final stage production that the children create and perform together.
The faculty includes Nisa Shetty, a trained actor and musician who has performed with Arijit Singh and under the direction of A. R. Rahman, alongside actors Tarun Kohli (movement and yoga) and Yashna Shetty (theatre, music, and podcast).
By the end of June, your child will have stood on a stage, worked as part of an ensemble, and made something they are genuinely proud of.
The workshop also includes a Book Podcast Project, where children read and discuss a book as a group and we record a short podcast episode to put up on Youtube, building confidence, reading habits, and the joy of conversation.
