JOHANNES BRAHMS - 3 VIOLIN & PIANO SONATAS
Brahms composed his three violin sonatas between 1879 and 1888, creating a central part of the chamber music repertoire that showcases a deep partnership between violin and piano. The Sonata No. 1 in G Major, Op. 78 is often described as warm and tender, while the Sonata No. 2 in A Major, Op. 100 offers a more sublime, song-like quality. The Sonata No. 3 in D minor, Op. 108 is more dramatic and fiery, a stark contrast to the others, notable for its lean, economical structure and passionate intensity.
Ryan Char is an American-born British violinist based in Brussels. Praised for his warm sound and sensitive musicality, he has performed across Europe, North America, and Hong Kong, appearing at festivals such as Bowdoin, Aspen, Banff (where he received the Banff Centre Award), and Santander. Having graduated from the Royal Academy of Music with first-class honours as a student of Professors Joshua Fisher & Rodney Friend, Ryan went on to study with Professor Yuzuko Horigome in Brussels and Maastricht and has worked with mentors including Viktoria Mullova, Keiko Wataya, and Christoph Poppen. He currently plays on an 1890 Enrico
Marchetti violin generously loaned by a private sponsor.
