Hands-on AI workshop for professionals and entrepreneurs. Learn practical AI tools for work, business, and career growth.
About this Event

Admission is free with a donation of clothing/shoes/household items. Proceeds from donated goods help fund our mission, providing workforce services to individuals who are working to overcome barriers to self-sufficiency, through the Power of Work!

Please bring: A laptop (required for the hands-on portion) and your email login. If you’re job searching, it also helps to bring a current resume and a job posting you’re interested in, so you can work with your own materials.

Need a loaner laptop or help with your email login? Email [email protected] and we’ll help you get set up on the day.

About This Workshop

AI is changing how we work, learn, and get things done – and for many people, it feels overwhelming. This free, hands-on workshop is a friendly first step into using AI with confidence. It cuts through the hype and shows you how to turn AI into a practical, everyday tool. No tech background, no coding, and no prior experience required.

Over four interactive hours, you’ll learn what AI really is (and how to spot when it gets things wrong), get hands-on with several popular free AI tools – ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini – and master the one skill that matters most: how to “talk” to AI so it gives you genuinely helpful answers. You’ll practice on real tasks, from everyday writing and planning to a complete job-search toolkit, and leave with your own set of ready-to-use prompts you can keep using on any computer.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is for anyone who wants practical AI skills – and for anyone who feels curious or nervous about AI. That includes job seekers and career changers, small-business owners and side-hustlers, and everyday learners who simply want to keep up. All comfort levels are welcome. No experience with AI, coding, or technology is needed – if you can turn on a laptop and type, you’re ready.

What You’ll Learn

By the end of this workshop, you’ll be able to:

1. Explain in plain words what AI is — and recognize when it’s confidently wrong

2. Get hands-on with several free AI tools — ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini — and know when to reach for each

3. Write clear, effective prompts using a simple recipe that works in any AI tool

4. Apply AI to real, everyday tasks — writing, planning, summarizing, and learning

5. Use AI for your job search — resumes, cover letters, job postings, and interview prep

6. Use AI safely and responsibly, protecting your personal information

7. Leave with a personal prompt pack and next steps to keep building your skills

Workshop at a Glance

Part 1 — AI, Demystified: what it is, where it comes from, and how to spot when it’s wrong.

Part 2 — Meet the Tools & How to Talk to Them: get comfortable with ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, and learn the one prompting recipe that works in all of them.

Part 3 — Hands-On Practice: put AI to work on real tasks — everyday writing and planning, plus a job-search track (resume, cover letter, interview prep).

Part 4 — Staying Safe & Next Steps: protecting your information and continuing your AI journey.

The workshop includes a short break.

What You’ll Take Home

Every participant leaves with a personal “Prompt Pack” – a simple, printed set of fill-in-the-blank prompts for both everyday tasks and your job search – plus the results you create during the workshop. It works in any free AI tool, so you can keep using it on any computer, long after the workshop ends.
