AI in Manufacturing: Panel Discussion
Part of Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Innovation Investment Week
As AI rapidly reshapes manufacturing, this event brings together industry leaders and innovators to explore how digitalisation, automation and emerging technologies are transforming the supply chain.
Glass Futures and the University of Liverpool’s Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC) will showcase AI‑GLASS, a pioneering digital twin project set to accelerate decarbonisation and innovation in glass manufacturing. Part of a wider £1.5m UKRI‑funded initiative, AI‑GLASS will help manufacturers cut emissions, boost efficiency and confidently adopt low‑carbon fuels and materials.
Based at Glass Futures’ 165,000 sq ft Global Centre of Excellence in St Helens, the project builds on existing pilot furnaces and research labs to create a virtual replica of the glass manufacturing process. By combining advanced physics modelling with AI, manufacturers can test changes—such as switching to hydrogen or biofuels, or altering batch compositions—without disrupting production or risking equipment.
The system provides instant insights into energy use, emissions, quality and operating costs, enabling faster, evidence‑based decisions. An immersive 3D digital twin of the entire site created using BIM data, LiDAR scanning and drone photogrammetry, adds powerful capabilities for training, safety planning, remote walkthroughs and live process visualisation.
Hear directly from project partners and discover how digital twins are unlocking the future of sustainable manufacturing.
