A two-part training session on how AI can support your work and everyday life
About this Event

AI is everywhere, but much of the conversation around it is confusing, over-technical, or unhelpful.

Join us for this two-part, in-person training series that aims to cut through the noise and focus on what AI actually is. You'll learn how AI works, and how everyday people can start using it confidently, and have the time to ask questions, take part in discussions, with optional follow-along support.

Session 1: Myth-Busting (Thursday 12 March)

This session will cover what AI is, what it can do, and how to start using. It is designed for anyone who wants to feel informed, capable and confident using AI - regardless of role or technical background.

You will explore AI in plain English, with practical examples that show how it can support work and life, not replace people. The session covers how to interact with AI effectively using simple prompting techniques, alongside essential topics such as bias, hallucinations, and security so you understand both its value and its limits.

Session 2: Taking AI Further (Thursday 19 March)

This session will explore the real-life applications of AI, and is ideal for anyone who wants to move beyond experimentation and start embedding AI into real workflows.

You will see how AI can turn raw information or datasets into structured presentations, and how it can support the creation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and process maps that are clear, usable, and easy to maintain. The emphasis will be on AI as a thinking and structuring partner, helping people work more effectively rather than automating blindly.

Please note: this training takes place across two sessions on consecutive weeks. Ensure you have booked your place for both of these dates using this listing.

About the Trainer

Your trainer for these sessions will be Scott Quilter FBCS, an award-winning technology leader, educator, and Co-Founder of Techosaurus. With over 20 years’ experience in digital transformation, automation, and AI, Scott specialises in making emerging technology practical, accessible, and useful for real people and real organisations using clear, jargon-free delivery.

Due to the way Spark Somerset is funded, we can only offer tickets for this course to staff members and volunteers from voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) organisations based in - or operating within - Somerset.
