SCHEDULE:
⏰ 12:30 pm: Arrival & Welcome
Workshops:
🎨 1 pm - 3 pm: Cabaça Painting (facilitated by De Ouro)
Each participant will receive their own fibre-glass cabaça (produced by Professor Diego) which they will personalise and take home. De Ouro will guide participants through a simple step-by-step process to decorate and personalise their own cabaça. This workshop is suitable for people of any artistic skill level.
Note: All materials (including cabaça) will be provided for this workshop.
🎤 3 pm - 4 pm: Singing for the Roda (led by Tayssa Ferreira)
Tayssa Ferreira, professional singer, composer, music teacher,
and director of ECOS Choir will lead us through a workshop aimed at helping build techniques to sing with confidence in the roda.
With Tayssa’s guidance, we will increase confidence with projecting our voice as a soloist or part of the ‘coro’, maintaining our voice for more longevity in the roda, as well as other techniques to enable us to be heard loud and clear, and make that important impact.
Vamos ecoar nossas vozes!! Let’s echo our voices!!
🟣 AIDÊ RODA (with warm-up & bate-papo):
4:30 pm - 6 pm The workshops will be followed by our special roda to celebrate all the amazing women of Capoeira in our community. It will be led by women but as always we invite and encourage EVERYONE to come and play!
REGISTRATION: please book your ticket through our humanitix event page - https://events.humanitix.com/ai-ai-aide-2026 (note that tshirts are limited so book fast if you would like one!)
***********************************
The fictional character of Aidê, who is referenced in Capoeira music, is a symbol of resistance to the oppression that was endured by enslaved people. In her story, there is hope, then liberation, as she escapes slavery to find her voice through Capoeira. We want to help enable women in Capoeira to find their true voice and this event is about celebrating and validating the important contribution of women to Capoeira.
We can't wait to see you there!
