On July 9, 1755, Edward Braddock, George Washington, and a British army crossed the Monongahela River. When no attack came, it appeared they would conquer Fort Duquesne and claim the Forks of the Ohio for King and country. As they moved forward through the wilderness, a volley erupted from the front. The battle that followed sent shockwaves around the globe, and created memories that Washington could never forget. Learn more about the Battle of the Monongahela from the Braddock’s Battlefield History Center’s Director of Education and Living History, Matt Gault.
